CAN-BIKE Instructor Certification

Maintaining Instructor Certification

 

Basic requirements for all instructors

  • Teach at least one CAN-BIKE course at your level of certification per 18 month period;
  • Attend a CAN-BIKE refresher clinic if absent from teaching for more than 18 months;
  • Assist with one full course before resuming teaching after absence, if recommended by National Examiner;
  • Upon relocation, take a CAN-BIKE refresher clinic at level II before teaching in new location; and
  • US Effective Cycling Instructors may become CAN-BIKE Skills II Instructors upon completing refresher clinic.

 

Refresher Clinics
  • Minimum three hours;
  • Held early in each teaching season;
  • May be either Skills I or Skills II Instructor level, depending on demand; and
  • A combination of road examination, questions on and demonstrations of teaching/testing techniques, and curriculum changes since the Instructor last taught.

     

Instructor Workshop
  • Two-day workshop (12 hours, minimum);
  • Three-hour essay exam, Instructor road exam and handling skills test; and
  • Candidates must be adults, as legally defined in their province.

     

Kids CAN-BIKE Seminar
  • Half-day workshop (4 hours);
  • Curriculum structure and practice

 

Important Note

All instructors must be members of their provincial cycling association for accreditation and maintenance of their certification. This membership may also provide liability insurance where courses are sanctioned, information up-dates about the CCA's CAN-BIKE program as it is released, and membership in the CCA's Education Committee.
