Commuter Traffic Skills

This one-day course augments the skills of recreational and commuter cyclists who want to improve their competence and comfort level in traffic. Traffic problems are presented, then ridden through and discussed. Participants also learn more about the legal status of bicycles and essential bicycle handling techniques.

Bicycle Maintenance I

This course provides skills for cyclists who want to learn to perform their own repairs and maintenance. In addition to basic routine maintenance tasks, content includes bicycle tune-ups and field repairs. The course aims to develop students' skills in repairing their own bikes and to get broken or failed equipment running.

Cycling in the City

This short course is based on CAN-BIKE Introduction to Cycling Skills. The two-hour program includes one hour orientation to traffic cycling principles, followed by one
hour tour of routes faced on a typical ride to the University of Saskatchewan campus.

Organizing Bicycle Safety in Your Community:
Two-day Workshop for Community Leaders and Volunteers

This intensive workshop is designed to help leaders and organizers present more effective bicycle safety events, including courses, rodeos and educational campaigns. The workshop presents an overview of safe riding practices applicable to all cyclists, characteristics particular to child cyclists, causes of child cyclist injuries and the skills that child cyclists must develop if they are to prevent injury. The workshop gives you the opportunity to learn how to develop ongoing bicycle education programs in your community.

Children's Bicycle Safety
An information session for teachers, community leaders and parents

This two-hour session is designed to help you instill in children the most important concepts of riding safely and stress the importance of proper bicycle care and traffic technique. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn how to develop ongoing bicycle education programs in your community. Presentations are delivered by certified Canadian Cycling Association CAN-BIKE instructor.

Child Bicycle Safety Presentations
for Grades K - 5 and 6 - 8

These 45 - 60 minute sessions are designed to introduce children to the most important concepts of riding safely and stress the importance of proper bicycle care and traffic technique. The classroom sessions focus on changing children's attitudes about bicycle safety and increasing their knowledge about traffic situations. In addition, with each presentation, educators or members of the sponsoring organization will have the opportunity to develop ongoing bicycle education programs. Traffic education methods such as assemblies and bicycle rodeos are effective for teaching basic traffic concepts, but children need to practice and experience what they are taught. This program provides an essential early step in the development of long-term skills development and behaviour change. Briefing sessions conducted with the sponsoring organization provide information on continuing skills development and instructor training. Each presentation is delivered by a certified Canadian Cycling Association CAN-BIKE instructor.

Bicycling Seminars for the Workplace
How to safely enjoy cycling to work or for fun

These 45 - 90 minute sessions are designed to introduce adults to the most important concepts of riding safely and enjoyably in traffic. Each session provides tips on buying a bicycle, fitting and maintaining your bicycle, traffic techniques and injury prevention. Learn how to find the right helmet (and make sure it works), save your knees, prevent muscle burn, avoid common traffic conflicts, and beat weather-related problems. Discover new possibilities for getting the most out of cycling.

Bicycling to a Healthier Workplace

Based on the CCA Introduction to Cycling Skills course, this program enables employees to get greater enjoyment out of riding and to feel more confident about their safety while riding. The program is presented in 10 sessions consisting of two hours of classroom instruction, four hours of on-bike practice and six hours of recreational riding. Sessions may be conducted in a variety of combinations to make the program as flexible as possible to meet the needs of participants. A typical outline involves classroom segments of under 45 minutes, followed by on-bike sessions. Classroom sessions may be conducted during staff lunch hours, special staff development sessions, or after work hours. On-bike sessions may be conducted after work or on weekends.
