Guide to
Great
Coffee Establishments
in
Saskatchewan
How our
ratings work
All
the establishments listed make good coffee. The ratings are
for the "extras" - things like atmosphere,
bicycle-friendliness and the like.
Here
are some things that earn an establishment extra
"beans":

Particularly
good coffee - not only do they need to start with a good
bean, the staff have to know how to prepare an exceptional
brew. If they can do it with modest flourish, so much the
better.

Engaging
location - an old house or historic property converted to a
coffee house, an outdoor patio where cyclists can enjoy
their coffee and other goodies in the company of others, or
some other feature of the property that enhances the
experience.

Relaxing
atmosphere - interesting people, lively conversation with
the staff or other visitors, good music (live or recorded)
and all those other things that keep you coming back.

Bicycle
friendly - bike racks on the premises or nearby, or some
other means of securing bicycles, particularly if the bikes
can remain in view while you're enjoying your coffee.
Bicycle friendly also refers to the reception that staff
give to cyclists.
There
are some things that can lower an establishment's rating,
even if everything else is exceptional. These
are:

Not
offering a smoke-free environment - in many cases, this is
enough to keep an establishment off our list altogether, but
sometimes a place has so many other benefits going for it
(such as an outdoor patio that allows us to escape the
smoke) that it would be unfortunate not to incude it.

Unfriendly location
- a location that works for motorists sometimes lowers the attractiveness
for cyclists. Usually, these are factors such as noise and other inconveniences
associated with access, high traffic volumes and parking.
