Western hospitality is legendary, so we've got those special touches to bring
you part of the real west. Camping out under the wide western sky is just the
start. Gather round
the
campfire and hear stories of the old west or a guitar serenade. We'll meet real
cowboys on working ranches.
Our meals will give us a hearty taste of western life, too! There's mouth-watering dinners that make Alberta famous, with generous portions to suit everybody's taste. Wholesome, filling breakfasts will get us off to a good start each day. We'll make sure you have enough to eat along the route - in addition to lunch, you can count on rest stops and help from support vehicles.
We've all heard legends of the "wild west", but the facts are a lot more exciting than the myths. The museums and historic sites along our tour route paint a colourful picture of the past. Some, such as the Bar U National Historic Site, bring the past into the present by operating as a working ranch. Cochrane Ranche commemorates the first cattle ranch in Alberta. The Remington-Alberta Carriage Centre portrays an elegance that most people wouldn't associate with western history. The centre is home to one of the finest displays of horsedrawn vehicles of the 19th Century.
First
Nations peoples established cultures centuries before the first European explorers
arrived in North America. We'll have a chance to learn about the history and
cultures of the first inhabitants of the contintent. We'll visit Head-Smashed-In
Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, among the largest and best preserved
jump sites of the western plains. Head-Smashed-In documents the buffalo hunting
culture of the Plains people from ancient times to the arrival of the Europeans.
Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park is home to significant native rock art sites
and spectacular sand rock formations. For centuries Native people considered
the area to be one of magic and spiritual strength. Writing-On-Stone preserves
the most extensive collection of pictographs and petroglyphs found in North
America.
